By now, you\u2019re probably able to schedule appointments with your\northodontist in Columbus again, but you shouldn\u2019t expect your next visit to be\nlike your previous ones. In accordance with recommendations by the CDC and\nother authorities, orthodontic practices have started adopting a number of\nadditional safety protocols. In this post, you\u2019ll learn about some of the\npreparations that your orthodontic team have made for your appointment in light\nof the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Hand Sanitizer Will Be Made Available<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hand hygiene is obviously paramount to orthodontists and\nother specialists who work with people\u2019s mouths, but to limit the potential\nspread of viruses as much as possible, it\u2019s necessary to enforce such practices\namong patients as well. Once you\u2019ve arrived at the office, you\u2019ll be asked to\nuse the hand sanitizer provided in order to remove any infectious organisms that\nyou might have brought with you. For your own safety, you\u2019ll need to use it\nagain when you\u2019re about to leave as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Your Appointment Time Will Be Very Carefully Selected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While your orthodontist wants to help as many people as\npossible throughout the day, the current environment means it\u2019s important to\nlimit the number of patients in the office at any given time. Appointments are\nnow being scheduled further apart to decrease the chance of patients coming into\ncontact with each other unnecessarily. As an added precaution, you\u2019ll be told\nnot to arrive more than 5 minutes early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Parents Will Need to Wait or Wear a Mask<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most orthodontic patients are children, and that naturally\nraises the question of what parents should be doing during the procedure.\nGenerally, it\u2019s recommended that after you\u2019ve answered screening questions, you\nshould wait in your car while your little one is treated. It is possible to accompany\nyour child if you think you need to, but you\u2019ll have to wear a mask. Bear in\nmind that both of you will need to have your temperatures checked at the\nbeginning of the visit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The Orthodontist Will Enforce Safety Among Their Own Team Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make sure that everyone at the practice is closely following\nthe appropriate safety measure, your orthodontist might name someone on their\nteam to act as an infection control coordinator, or \u201csafety champion.\u201d This\nperson will make sure the proper procedures for infection control and\nprevention are followed at all times; you can rest assured that you\u2019ll walk into\na practice that\u2019s designed to be as safe and sterile as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Correcting smiles is an important task, but your overall\nhealth is still something that needs to be carefully considered at all times,\nespecially during the current pandemic.
